Superstitions - New Year

On New Year's Eve, be sure to wear polka-dotted clothing to welcome the New Year.  This will ensure you that you need not worry about your finances during the upcoming year.  The dots symbolize coins/money.

My late mom never fails to practice this one.  She  was always in a polka dot dress on New Year's Eve and New Year itself.  One New Year, I remember buying her a dress for new year with squares and rectangle designs.  She doesn't want to wear it at first but after explaining to her that if the dots represents coins only, the squares and rectangles will represent bills ( means more money... lol... ) Funny huh?

Leave foods that are rounded in shape on top of your kitchen or dining table during New Year's Eve (i.e. oranges, grapes, watermelons) to ensure that you and your family will not go hungry within the upcoming new year.

Well, I still do this myself.  I always have eight kinds of different round fruits every New Year.  And passed on by my mom, I place 8 grapes above each door of my house.  I will just leave it there and replace it again for the next year.  many says it will bring good fortune.

Superstitions - Pregnancy

Don't take food from a pregnant woman.  You will be constantly sleepy.

I have not heard any truth about this one.  When my sister-in-law was pregnant, she and my brother were constantly sharing food.  And not even once that I saw my brother getting sleepy.  Well, if he does get sleepy, maybe he is just being his normal self...lol !

When you are pregnant, if you eat foods that are light in color, your baby will be light-skinned and if you  eat foods that are dark in color, your baby will be tanned.

Not true again.  When my mother was pregnant with me, she told me that she was craving for eggplants and she ate lots and lots of this when she was carrying me.  I have a fair complexion when the superstition said that I should be dark-skinned.

If the expectant mother appears more beautiful, dressed or more attractive, then her baby is probably going to be a girl.
If the expectant mother appears less beautiful, less attractive or haggard-looking, then her baby is probably going to be a boy.

LoL... who feels beautiful when she is pregnant?  Well, I haven't experienced being pregnant YET so I would not know.  And hey, we are so hi-tech now.  Haven't you heard about ultra sound?  And one more thing... being beautiful is in your mind :)

Superstitions - Marriage

The groom can only see the bride inside the church on their wedding day.  They say that it is bad luck to see the bride a day before the wedding.

The bride should not look at herself at the mirror before the ceremony begins.

If your wedding gown was ruined or a ring fell, you're marrying an abusive man.

If you marry a person who has a mole beside his or her nose, you will die ahead of that person.
